At Animal Clinic of Columbus, we offer a variety of services to care for your pet. If you have any questions or would like more information on how we can care for your pet, please contact us today.

Laboratory
Our in-house laboratory allows us to perform an array of diagnostic tests that help us care for your pet. This ranges from simple laboratory tests to more complex diagnostic tools that help us in treating your pet. We work with many different laboratories around the country which gives us the ability to provide specialty testing for your pet.

Radiology Services
Brand new, state of the art, digital on-site x-ray equipment allows us immediate access to high quality radiographs to aid in the diagnosis of many disorders, such as fractures, arthritis, and internal problems. Our radiographs are digitally recorded and can be burned to a CD for client viewing at home or emailed to a referral center. Digital radiographs offer the advantage of enhanced viewing allowing minute details to be seen more readily than traditional radiographs.

Ultrasound Technology
Dr. Blanton has done extensive training in abdominal ultrasonography and is capable of performing routine abdominal ultrasound for diagnosis of liver disease, renal disease, splenic tumors, and urinary bladder issues as well as other common abdominal problems. Interpretation by radiologists is also available via telemedicine for an additional fee. Ultrasound examinations are best done after an 8-12 hour fast and under mild anesthesia/sedation. Early morning drop-off with after noon pick-up is preferred. Please call 662-327-9414 to schedule.

Anesthesia
Tayloring anesthetic protocols to each patient is an important part of the way we at Animal Clinic of Columbus provide the best possible care. We understand having a beloved pet undergo anesthesia is often a scary thing, however with updated, specialized protocols and variety of anesthetics available, we strive to perform the safest anesthesia for your pets. Brand new anesthesia machines that are serviced annually and up to date monitoring equipment accompany all anesthetic events.

Surgical Services
Our surgical facility provides for the performance of a wide range of procedures, including (but not limited to) neuters, spays and other abdominal surgeries, limb amputation, tumor removal, bladder stone removal, and wound management. We also work with Magnolia Veterinary Surgery in Tupelo to perform orthopedic and specialized surgical procedures as necessary.

Dentistry
Dental health is extremely important for maintaining your four-legged family member’s health and longevity. An important part of dental health is a good oral examination and inspection of each tooth, which is best done under anesthesia. Our ultrasonic dentistry is performed under general anesthesia, which involves cleaning and polishing all teeth, fluoride treatment, oral inspection, and tooth extractions if necessary. Our new dental unit is equipped with an ultrasonic scaler, dental drill, low speed handpiece for polishing and much more. This is an outpatient procedure and requires minimal hospital stay.

Pharmacy
We maintain a large inventory of pharmaceuticals, shampoos, flea and tick preventatives and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also offer an online pharmacy which provides convenient ordering and home delivery; please click on the “Vetsource” icon (shopping cart) in the middle of our home page to access this option.

Microchips
It’s a terrible feeling to know that your pet is lost and on their own, but it’s an avoidable one. Microchipping pets is the best way to ensure their safe return in the unfortunate event that they become lost. We know your pets are members of your family, and we want to make sure you stay together. We highly advise all pet owners to microchip their pets.

Health Certificates
If you are moving internationally, or just traveling abroad with your pets, we are happy to assist you in gathering the appropriate information, performing any necessary testing, vaccinations, or treatments and providing you with an International Health Certificate. Please plan well in advance as some countries require testing and vaccinations to be completed at least 6 months prior to arrival!

Prescription Diet/Nutritional Counseling
We supply Hills Science and Prescription Diets and Prescription Purina Diets to provide for your pet’s specific dietary needs. From weight loss to disease management to health maintenance, we can select the diet that is best for your pet. Is your pet a little portly of late? If so, we have a weight loss program that includes calculating an ideal weight for your pet as well as a detailed feeding plan to get them back on track!

Geriatric Counseling
We will help you adjust to your older pets changing needs through wellness testing, education on how to care for an older pet, and addressing cognitive dysfunction and medical issues that can affect behavior. Blood work profiles are recommended to address issues in aging pets. We offer Senior Profiles at a discounted rate – call us today for a check up for your senior pet! Cats over 7 years old and Dogs over 6 years old are considered senior pets.

Referrals
If needed, we will provide referral to a Veterinary Specialist. Veterinary Specialty Centers can provide specified care for certain disorders including: oncology, behavior, orthopedic medicine, internal medicine, neurology, ophthalmology, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, radiology, etc. We work closely with several specialists in the area and are able to continue your follow up care here at Animal Clinic of Columbus.

Boarding
Although we are not a primary boarding facility, we do have limited boarding space available. We are glad to take care of your pet when you are not able. Our veterinarian does a brief examination on all boarders to ensure that no obvious health issues are being overlooked. These exams should not take the place of your regularly scheduled annual or bi-annual exams. Boarding pets are required to be current on all vaccinations and free of external parasites. Dogs must be up to date on DA2PP, Rabies, and Kennel Cough (Bordatella); Cats are required to be up to date on FVRCP and Rabies vaccines. If your pet has external parasites upon arrival at our facility, they will be treated at your expense. Boarding reservations are highly recommended as space is limited. Your dog will receive a FREE bath after staying 3 or more nights with us!

Drop off Services
If you don’t have time to bring your pet in during your busy work day, call for a drop off appointment. You can have your pet in our office as early as 7:30 a.m. on weekdays. Our doctors will examine them between appointments and call you when your pet is ready to go!
